[P365: Y3D11] Bali, Day 2 : Babi Guling, Ubud Palace, Rice Terrace
Saturday, March 5th, 2011 at 11:35 pm | Blog | project 365 #3 | Sightseeing | baliAt 8.30am, we met with our driver + tour guide, Mr Polos at our hotel. Our 1st stop was Ubud, where we went to for the Babi Guling / Suckling Pig, a famous balinese delicacy which there’re bloggers flying over to Bali just to tryout this dish.
It took about 1 hour from our hotel at Kuta to Ubud, but we still arrived a bit too early and the stall we wanted to go hasn’t open yet, so we kinda walk around the Ubud street to kill our time…
A school we walked pass.
Even the entrance also has strong Bali feel… ^^||
Another building we walked pass. Didn’t go in.
Ogoh-ogoh statues under construction. These statues are built for the Ngrupuk parade, on the eve of Nyepi day (Balinese New Year) in Bali.
Offerings. These can be found at everywhere…
Around 11am, we went to a stall name Ibu Oka for our Babi Guling lunch…
Menu…
The set i tried was Pisah, comes with soup…
The pork is nice. But the pork skin is really hard to bite. Didn’t finish it. But am a bit disappointed, as it’s not as tasty. You’ll wonder why people will purposely fly from Europe to there for the dish. Perhaps is because it is similar to some dishes we have back in Malaysia (as in we already get used to the taste, thus won’t get exited by it).
P/S: Just a side note, there are PLENTY of Babi Guling stalls around Bali. Had saw many on our way traveling around Bali…
Next is the Ubud Palace, located just opposite of Ibu Oka’s Babi GUling stall…
A foreigner doing video shooting at that time…
3rd stop, we went to Tegallalang Village for the rice terrcaces…
A local was removing grass there, and was then been asked to help take photo of tourist who wanted to have some “cosplay”…
A lot souvenir shops along the road. And there are also many locals who wander along the road side, and kacao / approach tourists trying to sell things such as batik, hand crafts to them.
They offered in USD, then if were ignored, some will continue trying using other currencies such as RM.
At a roadside souvenir shop, we found out that they are selling wooden penis-size bottle opener. We’ve chat in cantonese saying that it is too expensive. Then a local male sitting near by suddenly throw out the word “Banyak murah mar, lanjiao” (It’s very cheap, cock). Stunned ^^||
Should have take a photo of the wooded cock >.< In case you are curious about how it looks like, it's something like this:

Before leaving, we have a short break at a random roadside stall…
